Who am I?
Henning and Birgit, spring 2004 Originally we were husband and wife, Henning
Vigold and Birgit Hartoft. We have bred Norwegian Forest cats
since 1986. Henning's educational
background was an M.Sc. in chemical engineering, Birgit's is an M.A. in
English and a B.A in Computational Linguistics, both working as systems
consultants. Because of our busy work schedules, we have not been prolific breeders.
The breeding side of our hobby has been limited to one or two litters a year.
In 2003 Henning was diagnosed with renal cancer. We fought the disease until 2006, when Henning died on April 9. Our last litter together was our Y litter.
I, Birgit, live north of Copenhagen, in a pleasant
suburb close to open country, woods and lakes, yet only about half an hour
from central Copenhagen by car (45 minutes by public transport).
Over the years we have both been active in
our breed club, The Norwegian Forest Cat Club (affiliated to FIFé
and Felis Danica). Henning
was vice-president, Birgit was editor of the club magazine for four years.
Today, however, I am just a rank-and-file member.
Besides the cats I also have two dogs, which I train. They are two Australian Shepherds, which I train in obedience and herding, and this also demands some time of me. Now that I am alone, they keep me aired and walked.
Apart from this I usually spend my evenings relaxing with sewing patchwork quilts, and in 2007 I have begun to get engaged in the work to prevent errors in the healthcare sector.
